Overview and Responsibilities

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota invites candidates to apply for a faculty position in the Psychology and Social Sciences Department, beginning in August 2023.  This position is located on our Winona campus and is an on-site position.  In addition to the Psychology B.A. and minor, the department offers B.A. programs in Criminal Justice-Corrections and Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement, and a minor in Criminal Justice. Some 100- and 200-level psychology courses serve Health Humanities, Nursing, and Pre-Physician Assistant B.A. programs.

 

We are particularly interested in, and give preference to candidates that will demonstrate a vision to create and nurture great initiatives that promote our mission in the context of their jobs, and who wish to foster a culture of dialogue that, with deep respect for all people, support the search for meaning and purpose in the pursuit of excellence.

 

The successful candidate will have a doctorate in Psychology and a record of pedagogical excellence characterized by relationship-rich learning environments that generate transformative learning in on-ground courses. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a record of or be enthusiastic about extending pedagogical expertise to include online learning modalities. Candidates should understand and value the department’s strategic commitment to American Psychological Association outcomes for undergraduate education in Psychology.

 

The standard teaching load for the position is 22 - 24 credit hours per August - May contract year. Expected are teaching in General Psychology and other foundational courses, and the development of upper-level topics and seminar courses consistent with the candidate’s expertise. Areas of applied psychology are preferred, especially at the intersections of mental health and criminal justice or correctional systems.

 

Candidates are expected to support the Lasallian Catholic mission of the University to awaken, nurture, and empower learners to ethical lives of service and leadership. Department faculty members work closely with each student and provide feedback that fosters growth toward their utmost potential in individual and collaborative endeavors.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the following credentials and experience: 

 

  • A doctoral/terminal degree in Psychology is preferred.  ABD will be considered with evidence of successful teaching.
  • Experience in higher education teaching, and advising or mentoring, is required.
  • Experience in online teaching is required, and experience in online course development and student advising is preferred.
